Term 3 Homework



Room 4  Homework      Term 3  of 2014

Our topics this term is on Belonging.
Our homework routine consists of:
  • Reading to an adult every day.
  • Learning spelling words.
  • Learning any times tables and basic facts for that week.

As well as that, choose from the following independent learning projects and do one every week:

Write a “Who am I” clues about a family member or a team sport or any activity within a group for your friends to solve.



Make up a board game on multiplication and division facts.



Write an acrostic poem on belonging.



Write a recount of something exciting you did at home.



Make a model of your special place.



Compare and contrast your role in school and at home.



Be a data detective, find out something from your family and friends (e.g. The Favourite Drink) and present the results in a graph. Remember to write a conclusion.



Draw a Y chart on “Belonging to a group” – what can you see, feel, or hear?



Interview someone in your family about belonging to a group and present the questions and answers to class.



Make a homonym and antonym chart for any word such as ‘get’, ‘good’, ‘go’’, ‘ nice’, ‘happy’.



Create a word search on belonging for your friend to solve.



Retell a story you’ve read and write about the author’s views.



Design a logo for a family treasure or something you love.



Draw all the groups that you belong to and explain why they are special to you. For example, your family, school, church, sports team, music group and so on.



Make a collage of the things you like.



Find a book or website about a sport team or religious or cultural group and write a list of interesting facts.



Draw a map on your community to show your house, school, church, park, library, community centre and so on.





Term 3 Newsletter

Dear Parents and Caregivers,                                  

Kia ora, Ki orana, Malo e lelei, Talofa Lava...
        Welcome back to term three and it is great to see the children are refreshed and ready to start a new term.  Our topic will be on Belonging. It would be appreciated if you could continue using your home language to share your experiences about belonging to different groups to engage in your child’s learning. Please call in anytime to have a chat about our learning.

Our class programme for term 3
Mathematics
 
focus will be on addition, subtraction, fractions and statistics.

English will focus on report and recount writing.

  Reading will be on gaining meaning from texts by making inferences and evaluation.

Topic – will inquire into the meaning of belonging and the attributes of various groups.

Our P.E. and Health programme will be on gymnastics.

Maori focus will be on introducing ourselves and describing different actions.

Visual Art- is on creative dance and making a collage.
